Christmas 2023

Updated December 5th, 2023

Christmas 2023

As we move into the last month of the year it is always a time I become reflective and think about all of the things that have happened and the months passed.

This year was a bittersweet year in so many ways.  There were so many wonderful highs but some heart wrenching lows.  My career as a Celebrant has taken me from garden weddings, to seaside nuptials to the renewing of vows.  As each wedding is completed it never ceases to amaze me how love comes in all shapes and sizes and is different for everyone.  There have been big weddings, small intimate weddings and yet always with love at the core.

Life is the rollercoaster we all ride and for every high there was a low but balance is the nature of this blessed journey.  In March my beloved mother in law lost her fight against Motor Neurone Disease and this will be our first Christmas without her.  As December approached I asked with trepidation if we were celebrating Christmas this year.  My husband and father in law said we need to carry on just as she would want.  As I started the decorations I thought should I go subtle?  Should I tone it down this year?  And then I thought of her, of her excitement at every tiny detail you shared with her and it has spurred me on to go even extra this year!  What are we waiting for? Life comes around once.  And we have to grab that life with both hands.  So this year just remember if you have a warm home, people you love around your tree and a full belly then you are truly blessed.  Don’t wait to go for what you want, don’t hold back and don’t ever withhold telling those you love just that… life is short, love is a blessing and Christmas really is the time magic can be found.
